Ethical Traveler, part of the Earth Island Institute, recently released its annual list of its top ten ethical destinations. The non-profit organization examines the policies and practices of hundreds of countries and the top ten are chosen from those nations that “are doing the most impressive job of promoting human rights, preserving their environment, and upholding civil society - all while creating a sustainable, community-based tourism industry.” Ethical Traveler says that by using our travel dollars to support the countries on the list, we can leverage our economic power to support ethical practices.
